Canterbury Rogaine Series

Lake Lyndon

17 September 2011

Thank you to 135 competitors who took part in the second event of the Canterbury Rogaine Series held at Lake Lyndon on 17th September 2011. The weather was fantastic and competitors enjoyed another stunning day in the mountains.

Top score on the day went to Searching for Sanity (Greig Hamilton and Phil Novis), with an impressive score of 1950 points. Out and back from 81 first, they cleaned out most of the course in an anticlockwise loop. Flax in Creek (#51) tricked a few experienced teams, including Greig and Phil who all travelled too low.

The special tasks were challenging for some teams, but others managed to think outside the square and complete them quickly. The small boat at #100 was gradually dragged by successive teams towards the bank. By the time I went to collect the checkpoint the boat was capsized with the Navlight submerged below!

A lot of creative thinking (cheating?) was applied to the bucket filling exercise, with one team almost filling the buckets with rocks to decrease the volume. Some teams were wise enough to squeeze out any remaining water into the buckets before making their first trip down to the lake. The quiz task proved thought provoking and challenging for many. All tasks sought to improve awareness around water supply projects in the developing world. Half of all raised funds are being donated to World Vision’s Magugu water supply project in Tanzania.
